Tom Gugliotta - The Phoenix Suns forward known as "Googs," took a furanone product (GBL) on December 17, 1999, not knowing that the FDA considers furanone and gamma butyrolactone as unapproved drugs. He nearly died. He had seizures and quit breathing twice. The NBA has not released the name of the GBL product Gugliotta took.
Guess what Gugliotta thought the GBL product was? A SAFE SLEEP AID! As reported by Associated Press, he was having trouble sleeping and took the supplement at the suggestion of a friend. Gugliotta is well known for not taking medications unnecessarily, not even Advil if he doesn't have to. He reportedly takes meticulous care of his body.
